Blog Tour - ARC Review - Prep School Confidential by Kara Taylor

Expected Publication : July 30th, 2013
Prep School Confidential
In this breathtaking debut that reads like Gossip Girl crossed with Twin Peaks, a Queen Bee at a blue-blooded New England prep school stumbles into a murder mystery.

Anne Dowling practically runs her exclusive academy on New York’s Upper East Side—that is, until she accidentally burns part of it down and gets sent to a prestigious boarding school outside of Boston. Determined to make it back to New York, Anne couldn't care less about making friends at the preppy Wheatley School. That is, until her roommate Isabella’s body is found in the woods behind the school.

When everyone else is oddly silent, Anne becomes determined to uncover the truth no matter how many rules she has to break to do it. With the help of Isabella’s twin brother Anthony, and a cute classmate named Brent, Anne discovers that Isabella wasn’t quite the innocent nerdy girl she pretended to be. But someone will do anything to stop Anne’s snooping in this fast-paced, unputdownable read—even if it means framing her for Isabella’s murder.

The pretty cover and title might make you think that this book is another one of those Gossip Girl-esque type of books. But it was nothing like that, I loved this book so much that at the end of the year this is definitely going to be in my best books of 2013 list. It was so amazing!!! It was a mystery book through and through.

Anne is your typical Upper East Side girl, parties and boys are on her everyday To-do list. Yet, she doesn't make them her life, she just gets bored and needs some sort of entertainment. Yup, she's one of those girls, the type whose blasé attitude we just love to read about in books and watch in movies. But there's more to her than meets the eye and the way Kara drew those qualities out is what makes this book so awesome.

I loved the characters especially Anne she was just so feisty and funny and just overall a cool person, that I would love to hang out with.  I loved the way Kara threw out Anne's personality traits. I was really able to connect with Anne, especially the whole thing with her parents mainly her dad. The people are so annoyingly preppy and I honestly hated a lot of them. But what I found that I liked in this book was that even though I hated a few characters it didn't make me hate the whole book. In a lot of books that I've read I end up hating the whole book even if I just don't like the secondary characters. However I actually started liking the characters whom I initially didn't like.

And the hot guys, *swoon* they were so *sigh*, I loved Brent and Anthony, two bad boys ... how did we get so lucky? I really wasn't rooting for any one of them in particular,  okay I was a little Team Brent in the beginning but like Anne I just couldn't make up my mind! They were both so hot! They both had sensitive sides underneath all that badness, so it was a tough decision. But towards the end I started to pick my person (I'm not telling who) and he was the one who Anne picked as well. So yaay for the both of us!

Kara's writing is impeccable and it was gripping. I stayed up till two in the morning, because I just had to know who the killer was and in the end I was so shocked. I always end figuring out the murderers in most books but I had so many people on my mind in this book that when the actual killer appeared on the page I was like " OMO, are you serious?!! It's ....". I don't think anyone will figure it out. I love love looooved this book!!!! It was THE BEST BOOK I'VE READ IN A LONG LOOOOOOOONG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad I got to read it before anyone else, after I finished the book I had some sort of sick satisfaction at knowing who the murderer was. I felt so good after reading this book, it really can't be explained. Okay it can be, the WRITER IS AWESOME! It's totally unputdownable. I can't wait for the sequel, although it was not terribly cliff hanger-y, I still want the next book really badly. I can't wait!!!

A glimpse into Anne's thoughts:

"Homicides happen in New York City, where there are drug dealers and gangs. They don't happen at fancy prep schools in Massachusetts, where everything is brick and covered in ivy and safe."

"I never run from trouble. Trouble is like a dog that wants to rip your throat out: If you stare it down, you have a better chance of saving your ass."
